Bioinformatics Course, Admission-Bioinformatics Career

The Bioinformatics is giving good opportunity to the candidates who are interested in sciences and in IT industry.  Mainly with the combination of Molecular Biology and Information Technology the Bioinformatics is being formed.  The information that is provided by the Genetic research is classified, analyzed and stored by the Bioinformatics technology.

After the inauguration of the human genome, in the research of sciences, and mainly to know about the medicines and gene classification computers are being used vastly.  In the research the main stage is to know about the gene stage and the protein stage and for that special software is being introduced.  In this scenario, the candidates who wanted to do bioinformatics course should have the computer knowledge of C, databases, web programming etc.

Expanding Bioinformatics research

In the foreign countries as well as in India the research for the Bioinformatics is increasing.  The famous medicine companies are shifting to Bioinformatics research.  In India, working under CSIR region is Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB ), Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI) and the private companies like Biocon, Astra Zeneca, Dr. Reddy’s Labs, and Ranbaxy are giving preference to the bioinformatics.  Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Mahindra Satyam, Reliance, IBM, Silicone Genetics organizations are also doing research in Bioinformatics.

For computer graduates (B.Tech. Computer Science), Life Sciences, Chemistry, Statistics, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacology, Mathematics etc candidates who have done post graduation, Bioinformatics is very useful.  The candidates who had done chemistry have good opportunities in molecular modeling.  In the data analysis region mathematics, computer and statistics experts have good opportunities.

  Bioinformatics Advanced Course

To provide modern courses like Bioinformatics modern technology knowledge, laboratories, and experienced teachers are essential.  In Hyderabad, there are Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU-Hyderabad) together are providing bioinformatics advanced course (ACB).  The information technology, technological knowledge and in the biological field these institutions earned good name for doing research.  These institutions offer the courses with high standards.  The duration of the course is 24 weeks (from September 7, 2011 to March 30, 2012).  The other details are:

Educational Eligibility: Students who studied Computer engineering /chemical engineering or technology /biotechnology/BE in pharmacy subjects/B.Tech. or computer sciences/biological sciences (life sciences)/environmental science /biotechnology /chemistry / agricultural science /mathematics /statistics /physics subjects with post graduation are eligible.  MBBS/BDS//BVSC/MVSC candidates are also eligible.

The selection procedure:  There are 24 seats in total in the ACB program, 6 seats are filled by the sponsored category and the remaining are open seats.  All of them have to write the written examination (Common Entrance Test).  The examination would be as follows:

Computer Fundamentals and Programming Opinion: 40 marks (the questions would be on computer generations, computer divisions, number systems, bullion algebra, computer codes, computer software, divisions, compiler, computer languages, programming.)

Biology Concepts: 40 marks (the questions would be from life sciences, molecular biology, pharmacology, engine kinetics, biochemistry)

General Aptitude: The questions would be for 20 marks.

Course Fees: Rs. 45,000, for sponsored candidates the fee for CAB course would be Rs. 60,000.  Application would be available on the website from June 2nd, 2011.  The details are available in www. iictindia.org. Applications can also be downloaded from JNTUH, C-DAC sites also. last date for receiving application is July 3rd , 2011.

The date of the entrance examination: July 24, 2011 (only in Hyderabad)

Half of the candidates would be from Andhra Pradesh

The entrance examination Common Entrance Test is conducted at the national level for the admission into ACB and half of the candidates would be from the state of Andhra Pradesh.  The candidates who have done IT or non-IT courses can appear for the entrance test.  After studying Bioinformatics, many of the candidates are going to America, Canada, Germany, France, Malaysia and some of them settle with the jobs in the Biotech companies through campus placements. Job opportunities are also available in research organizations as project assistants and in  faculty field.

Till now the ACB candidates have got placement from Ranbaxy, IBM, V Life sciences, Cognizant Technology Solutions, DuPont India, Wipro, Dell, Thomson Reuters India, Infosys, ICICI, etc.  Some of the candidates have got selected in prestigious organizations like IICT, CCMB, NIN, and NGRI and doing research.  The computer candidates who have done ACB are getting better placement than the software industry.

New points can be learnt

Key factor in ACB is to connect all the life science factors with a Chip. Programming, C, Data structure, advanced computing are taught in the course.  Suggestions of experts and scientists in various fields will be very helpful. Last two months of the course are dedicated to project. ACB teaches many new things. ACB is useful for job opportunities.  The ACB course is useful to improve the interest in doing research, and to settle down in the Bioinformatics industry.
