‘National Talent Search Examination-NTSE’ scholarships are given to school children to encourage them. These are national scholarships and students are selected for these scholarships through a national level entrance test. NTSE scholarships are given for students from Eighth class to tenth class.
Students who are studying eighth class in recognized schools can apply to NTSE scholarships. Thousand students across India are given these scholarships every year.
NTSE details: NTSE scholarships will be given to selected students from eighth class to till they complete PhD. This scheme is applied to professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. Scholarship will be available for Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce streams. Candidates who are selected will be given Rs. 500 per month. 15% of the scholarships are reserved for SC, 705% for St and 3% for PHC category students.
NTSE scholarships Selection Procedure
Candidates for NTSE scholarships will be selected in two stages – State level and National level.
State Level NTSE: Candidates will be selected in states and Union Territories and the sent to second stage of selection procedure. State level NTSE entrance test will be conducted on the second Sunday of November every year. This test will have Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Ability Test sections. MAT and SAT duration will be of 90 min each. 90 questions will be there for 90 marks. General candidates will have to get 40% that is 38 marks and SC/ST/PHC candidates should get 32% i.e. 29 marks to qualify for NTSE second stage.
National Level NTSE: National level NTSE will also be conducted in the same method. There is no special syllabus for NTSE. Questions from seventh class and eighth class syllabus will be asked. This test will be conducted in various regional languages along with English and Hindi. While applying candidates should clearly mention their medium of education and exam center.
Students who are qualify in both the stages of NTSE entrance test will be called for an interview. Interview will be conducted for 15-20 minutes but there will be no marks given. Interviews are conducted in various centers across India. After the completion of interviews list of selected students will be prepared based on MAT, SAT and Interview. These students will be given scholarships from ninth class.
Application procedure for NTSE entrance test
Students studying eighth class in recognized schools, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya and Sainik schools can send their applications for NTSE entrance test. Applications can be obtained from the regional offices or NCERT or can be downloaded from the website of NCERT. Signature of School Principal/Head Master on the filled in applications is compulsory. In Andhra Pradesh, NTSE application can be obtained from ‘Deputy Commissioner, Director for Government Examinations Office, Chapel Road, Abids, Hyderabad’.
